Christian Church Position Statements
We have tried to gather the statements from the various Christian Denominations.
We are encouraging all church congregations to explicitly demonstrate solidarity with Palestine and reject the ongoing Genocide in Palestine
Irish Catholic Priests call for Catholic Church to cut links with Allianz
A demand is likely to emerge when the long and close commercial relationship of Allianz and the Catholic Church in Ireland becomes clear. For decades, Allianz has been the trusted friend of the Catholic Church – even to the extent of enjoying representation on the Allianz Board – with Catholic Church properties in Ireland including places of worship, schools, cars, etc almost all being insured by Allianz as a matter of course.
In the light of that ‘Reflection’ and because the present sense of outrage in the Irish Catholic Church at what’s happening in Gaza will be increased exponentially by the revelation of the Irish Catholic Church’s connection with Allianz and Allianz’s connection with the state of Israel, we ask that the response of the Irish Catholic Church should be immediate and far-reaching in cutting our links with Allianz.
Nothing less is acceptable as Irish Catholics will now be conscious of the Allianz connection – albeit by extension – and of our connection with the plight of the children we see on our television screens.
The ACP also encourages all Catholic religious Congregations and dioceses to exercise high levels of due diligence in carefully scrutinizing their investment portfolios to determine if any part of their investments is helping to sustain the appalling human rights abuse being inflicted on the Palestinian people.
Irish Catholic Bishops Day of Prayer for Gaza 24th August
Parishes across Ireland are invited to unite once more in a Day of Prayer and Reflection for Gaza this Sunday, 24 August 2025.
How Can We Respond?
On Sunday, all are invited to take part in 24 hours of prayer and reflection. Whether as a parish or in the quiet of your own home, please consider:
· Attending Mass and offering it for peace in Gaza
· Spending time in Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament
· Praying the Rosary for peace and justice
· Lighting a candle at home or in your parish church
· Making a small personal sacrifice or act of penance
· Reaching out to your political representatives to advocate for justice and humanitarian aid
· Supporting trusted aid organisations bringing relief to Gaza
Archbishop Martin concluded, “This is a moment for our nation to radiate the light of Christ into the darkness, a light of peace, of justice and of hope for our world. Let us stand together, as one body in Christ, for the people of Gaza and for all who long for a just and lasting peace in the Holy Land.
Irish Catholic Bishops
The Irish Catholic Bishops issued a statement on 12 June 2025 which condemn 'Genocidal actions sanctioned by the Government of Israel.
All parishes are asked to give expression to their solidarity with the suffering people of Gaza during June.'
C4P Lobby Presbyterian Church in Ireland
Members of C4P lobbied the Presbyterian Church In Ireland at their annual assembly in Belfast June 2025.
The response was good with many attendees taking leaflets outlining the catastrophic situation in Gaza and why the PCI needs to show solidarity with fellow Christians in Palestine.
R Catholic Church
The RC Church has its own position paper on Palestine but it is also a signatory to The Pax Christi declaration of October 2024, through Archbishop Eamon Martin and Bishop Alan McGuckian
Methodist Church
We are outraged by the disastrous and deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza since the ending of the first ceasefire and the resumption of the Israeli military offensive and air strikes on 18th March.
Presbyterian Church USA
The Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) has a very well developed resource to counter the Zionist narrative and oppose the apartheid in Israel and Palestine.
